All About Me, Me, Me...

Over the course of my career, I've had the opportunity to wear many different hats, and not just to hide my famously shiny head. Here's an overview of my background and my ongoing roles as a journalist, editor, musician and Web guy.

Journalism and Editorial Background

Lately I've mainly been freelancing for a custom publisher that produces quality magazines for various manufacturers, most of them in the boating industry. Among other publications, I've also written for DownBeat and its sister magazine Music Inc., where I was employed full time as an editor for most of the 1990s.

Music Career

The name's Showtime... Johnny Showtime! Although my formal education is in journalism, music has always been my passion. I've been fortunate to make a good chunk of my living playing the trombone. Many people remember me from Liquid Soul, the band I toured and recorded with from 1995 to 2003. Since that gig ended, I've been leading my own band, Soulio, and playing around Chicago in a variety of other great bands. More info at my music site, johnnyshowtime.com.
